Weekly Promotion: Sunday Salsa and an event recap.

Peace.  Gotta love three day weekends.  Not only do you get time off from work, but usually everyone else does, too.  Which leads to having good times with good folks.  Memorial Day weekend is especially nice because Washington DC is super busy and hosts a slew of all white parties.  I might even attend a few, though I won’t be promoting any here.  Why?  Because there’s really no point.  You could google “all white party” “washington dc” “memorial day” and you’ll probably find something.  Plus the ones I may attend are “private”.  Oh yes.  Bengemin gets pretentious, too.  But don’t be troubled, I still got some goodies to share with you.
In my last weekly promotion, I talked about cheap dates and gave examples of a few.  One cheap date idea I’ve always found successful is to take a woman dancing.  But not to the hip hop-r&b-top 40 club.  What with all the diversity in the city, take her swing dancing.  Or to an African dance class.  Ballroom dancing.  Hand dancing.  Or just go the easy route and find a salsa spot.  One of my favorite venues is the Sunday Salsa at Lucky Strike.
Why Lucky Strike, when there are so many other venues from which to choose?
Because why not?  My guess is half of you didn’t even know Lucky Strike hosted a salsa night on Sundays.  I didn’t until a few months ago.  Besides, it’s metro accessible, you’re probably familiar with the location and the neighborhood.  It’s spacious.  If there is a game you don’t want to miss, you won’t miss it.  And each time I’ve gone the scenery has been great.  No, that last point may not be conducive to a date, but it’s a good reason for a dude to go nonetheless.
The way it works is, the evening is broken into several sections.  Beginners take the floor first, with intro classes starting at 7:30.  After that, the intermediates take the floor (and some beginners, too) and their class begins at 8:15.  After that, the dance party starts at 9:00 and goes until 1 in the am.  The DJ provides a good mix of salsa, mambo, cha cha cha, bachata and meringue, and it’s only $5.
Pertinent details:
Salsa at Lucky Strikes each and every Sunday
Located in the Verizon Center
Beginners: 7:30pm
Intermediates 8:15pm
Party: 9pm – 1am $5
They even have a special Memorial Day Weekend Madness party, but it’s probably the same as any other weekend.
Now if you notice in the title, I said I’d be providing you with a recap of events I’ve promoted.  This is probably unnecessary because I already provide you with the Event calendar, but I figured I’d give you a quick rundown anyway.
Every Wednesday (which means tonight), Bohemian Caverns hosts Wednesday Night Verses, a very good open mic of sorts.  Cover is $7.
Every last Thursday of the month (which means tomorrow night), Bossa Lounge hosts Afrobeat for Ya SOUL!  Cover is $5.
And this Saturday, don’t forget about Recess.  It’s free.  It’s fun.  And you get to be a kid again.  And if you can’t find anything else to do with your weekend, try to find a cookout somewhere.  Have a good Memorial Day.

  1. I head about Salsa at Lucky Strike but I didn't know the details. Thank you, Ben! Also, I'm looking forward to Recess :)

Thanks for keeping the people of DC up on events some people might not otherwise here about.

  2. Thanks for reading. Also, there are plenty of salsa events in the city, many that are much less popular but probably more thorough. I jus felt like promoting this one first. Stay tuned for others in the future.
